Johan graduated from University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1985 and practiced for fifteen years in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

As a founder member and director of PDS Architects and Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers in Pretoria, South Africa, Johan successfully completed a large number of projects and has experience in the design and project management of healthcare, commercial, retail, leisure, hospitality, industrial, institutional, offices, mixed-use and residential projects.

Johan joined RKD Architects in 2001 and was appointed as a Director in April 2004.
