RKD Architects have developed a masterplan for a new transit-oriented sustainable development of an urban community containing high quality buildings in a landscape setting.
Hilltown is an 80 hectare (200 acre) site accessible by existing roads to the East, North and West with a number of proposed connections into the site. A substantial Park and Ride facility is proposed within the development to promote use of rail corridor to the wider community as well as the proposed residents, regional workers and visitors.
It is proposed to concentrate the majority of the development in an urban core which would be centred around a railway station. The proposed urban core would be supported by a district sized retail centre combined with commercial offices and apartments set out in a series of urban blocks. Traditional streets spring out from this urban core and are laid out with pedestrian-oriented traffic in mind, with parking and deliveries occurring below ground.
