Nypro Manufacturing Limited, purchased unit 210 in the Waterford Industrial estate in July 2000. Shortly thereafter, RKD Architects were appointed to assist in the refurbishment of the existing facility and the extension of the unit to the rear and side to produce a new building of approximately 6,165 sq. m.
The project included the addition of a sprinkler tank and pump house, and the extension of the car park to the rear. Extensive landscaping was designed to the rear of the building to discreetly screen the extension from the adjoining housing.
The original building was stripped of its cladding on three sides and reclad with a new panel system. To allow for a power and facility upgrade, new plant and electrical switch rooms were added to the ground and first floor. The new cladding was selected to ensure a consistent look across the old building and the new extension.
RKD researched and specified a special floor covering for the existing and new floors that would meet the requirement for a fully servicable floor that could take consistent forklift truck traffic, without staining.
