RKD had designed a new landmark printing plant for TCH in Cork, within the townland of Ballinure, which acts as an architectural icon for the Mahon Point area. Relying on past experience in the industrial print sector, RKD helped the client deliver this project from green field to commissioned printing plant within ten and a half months.
The unique form of the 19.5 m tall main press hall addresses the street with a gentle curving façade and allows for a visual connection to the eight printing towers housed inside. The main structure also contains a mail room, reel and ink storage, Computer to plate control room, ancillary plant rooms, offices/staff amenities and a waste compactor room having a total floor area of 4,075 sq. m.
Improvements to the 1.42 hectares site include landscaped areas which help differentiate the various traffic access roads needed on industrial sites. External sprinkler tanks and a pump house were also provided on site.
